Before Launching Scooby
Red Dead Redemption 2 does not use BattlEye, so it does not matter whether you leave it on or off.
Get these sorted before you launch anything:
- Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date
- Install all runtimes and DirectX runtimes - just choose to install them when running the Scooby Installer, then restart your PC afterwards
- Disable Windows Defender. Turn it off normally - do not use Sordum / Defender Control, it causes issues for some people and turning Defender off manually removes that possibility of errors
- If you have any third-party antivirus installed (Norton, Avast, Malwarebytes, etc.) you need to uninstall it. These still cause issues even when they are "off"
How to Launch Scooby
Follow these steps in order:
- Sign into your Scooby account
- Select RDR2
- Launch Red Dead Redemption 2 and wait for it to load
- Once you are at the main menu, click "▶️ LOAD" on the Scooby loader
- You can enter story mode or online after the CMD console appears on screen
Menu doesn't appear in-game
You may need to change your graphics settings / resolution. Alternatively you may need to use a VPN.
Crashing? Switch to DX12
In Red Dead Redemption 2, open Settings → Graphics and scroll down to Advanced Graphics. Change Graphics API from Vulkan to DX12, then apply the change and restart the game.
